Statement:
Aaron Colussi works beyond the straight photograph, layering his images in order to tap into the subterranean emotions of a place. Looking at his work, the viewer can feel the circular arcs of ice skating, or be levitating on sun-warmed grass. The chaos of the street in Crosswalks and Intersections is nearly auditory.
Colussi’s double-exposed photographs are super-sensory. This is perhaps most evident in Foundering of Memory. Figures, trees, and all matter seem insubstantial, with the very feeling of sledding down a hill as the world sweeps past.
