Pictura Gallery

History + Mission

Established in 2008, Pictura Gallery is a non-profit institution that celebrates photography in its many iterations. We present work that represents the state of the medium today. We are dedicated to showing the art form as it evolves, especially in dialogue with other artistic mediums.

Our mission is to share the best contemporary fine art photography with our Midwest community while contributing to the international dialogue of present day photography. We are devoted to collaborating with artists to help them build strong careers and maintain artistic excellence.

Pictura is housed in the FAR Center for the Contemporary Arts. We offer an annual calendar of exhibits – all free to the public – as well as educational programming through lectures and workshops. We work with the guiding belief that photography is a powerful tool, one that sparks questions and conversations and richly engages community.

Lisa Woodward and Mia Dalglish, the Co-Curators at Pictura, are motivated by a desire to create meaningful experiences with photographic art. Collaboratively, they produce the gallery’s year-round programming. They work to generate thoughtful and nuanced exhibits, showcasing projects with strong formal sensibilities and depth of content.

They serve as portfolio reviewers for conferences and festivals such as FotoFest, Review Santa Fe, Photolucida, and Les Rencontres d’Arles. They also serve as jurors for photographic competitions and as guest critics for university classrooms.

Lisa and Mia have been known to finish each other’s sentences. Mia would like to thank Lisa for always having an emergency supply of snacks on hand. While usually a fan of brevity and economy, Lisa asserts that in this instance, two curators are better than one.

Submissions

To be considered, projects must show a high degree of thought, cohesion, resolution and technical ability. Artist statements are encouraged. We don’t accept in-person physical portfolios, so please submit your work here, at info@thefar.org

Due to the high volume of mail, we are unable to respond to each individual submission, but we will review them. We will be in contact if and when an opportunity arises. The best way to share your work with us is through a portfolio review.
